EU projects and international partnerships

The EU project INMEDIATE (International Mediators trained in Europe): Ongoing

With InMEDIATE, we want to create a European professional profile of the international mediator. This would promote the strengthening of mediation capacities in Europe and help to achieve a European standard in this area, by training mediators across the continent. The project promises extensive learning and capacity building and is proud to be fully funded by the European Union's ERASMUS + program.

Funded by the

Erasmus + Programm

of the European Union

In cooperation with 6 participants over a period of 30 months, we create a curriculum for international civil mediators, offer it online on the InMEDIATE platform and create a toolkit so that the certification system can be replicated elsewhere.

Steinbeis is working with the following organizations for this project.

Visit www.inmediateproject.eu for applying to the training programme. Follow us on LinkedIn for updates and project announcements.

This pioneering project, which was co-financed by the European Commission under the Civil Justice Program, looked at cross-border estate brokerage and examined the impact of the EU inheritance law. Based on the study results of the project, training courses and a European mediation conference will be offered. Learn more about FOMENTO in the video.

Our international project partners were Resolutia and Prodos(Italy) and Mediatorzy(Poland) .

The EU project "Online mediation in cross-border disputes": 2010 - 2012

With this project, we supported the EU directive on the use of mediation as a cost-cutting and time-efficient method for resolving cross-border conflicts. The main result here, combined with the findings of our previous EU project Leonardo da Vinci (2009-2011), was the International Mediation Alliance. The IMA is an association of leading European providers of mediation and intercultural management consultancy, whose expertise lies in solving cross-border conflicts.

We have worked to improve the training and qualification of mediators who specialize in intercultural cases and to create additional training and further education opportunities. For this exciting project we have teamed up with culture.communication (Germany) and Resolutia - Gestione delle Controversie (Italy).

International Conferences

2nd International Conference - "Mediation without Borders": 2012

The cross-border mediation conference as a part of our EU project FOMENTO was successfully completed. Experts from 15 different nations came together and were able to gain many new impressions in the 2 days.

1st European Conference on Cross-Border Mediation (Florence): 2011

With almost 300 participants, the IMA successfully organized a two-day conference on cross-border mediation in Florence. Among the speakers were the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Diana Wallis and William L. Ury, co-author of the best-selling negotiating book “Getting to Yes”. The main topics ranged from online dispute resolution and intercultural issues in cross-border mediations to cross-border mediations in the automotive industry.

A large selection of practical and interactive workshops, a world café and networking opportunities as well as a closing speech by William Ury were the highlights of the conference.

Since then, IMA has proven to be a powerful, internationally operating partner who accompanies and solves complex projects and cases.

Mediator KOMPAKT Steinbeis - in cooperation with the Fernuniversität Hagen

In cooperation with the Fernuniversität Hagen and the APRAXA Lawyers' Association, we held the "Mediator KOMPAKT" course in Leipzig and Stuttgart. This collaboration is characterized by practical, university-oriented training. The curriculum was specially developed for this course and is deliberately aimed at the needs of lawyers for mediation training.

The Steinbeis Advisory Center for Business Mediation was responsible for the face-to-face training (72 hours) of the entire program (387 hours).

Mediation forums - The Steinbeis Days

The Steinbeis Days, which took place in Leipzig for the first time in 2014 and in Stuttgart in 2015, have now established themselves as a tradition. Together with the Institute for Communication and Mediation Dr. Barth (IKOME ©) and the Steinbeis University Berlin - Academy for Mediation , Social Affairs and Law (Akasor) , organizes an extensive mediation forum.   Around 300 guests take part every year. The core topics of this mediation conference revolve around the developments in conflict management and the methods of out-of-court conflict resolution. The program of the mediation forum can be found here: https://www.mediationstage.de/. The participants have the opportunity to hear exciting lectures, take part in workshops and thus expand their knowledge in a variety of areas. The Steinbeis summer festival with dinner and live music ensures a convivial get-together. And because the mediation event became increasingly popular, an additional forum was held in Berlin from 2019.
